The development in public transport in the region is expected to take a quantum leap with the announcement of an upgraded transit plan that will benefit commuters who need to travel from Delhi to various cities of Haryana. According to reports in the Indian Express, the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) has given the go-ahead for a twin transit system which will connect Sonipat, Panipat, Manesar and Palwal with Delhi via Metro and Namo Bharat trains.
The new transit system will ensure that commuting becomes easy, convenient, and quick. While a metro train will be used for shorter distances, the high-speed train will be taken for longer distance travelling. The objective here would be to ensure that many parts of NCR get connected to Delhi in 30 minutes time frame.
In the recommended plan, Namo Bharat trains will become the fast regional connection, running at higher speeds and having fewer stops along the way. Namo Bharat trains are supposed to cater to people commuting over long distances between cities. Meanwhile, the Metro lines will complement these routes by serving more stops for daily commuting of the locals.
The recommended plan covers six corridors in all. Among others, one of the most interesting corridors will be the Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor since it will prove to be revolutionary as it will incorporate both Metro services and Namo Bharat services. Local Metro services in Meerut have already been introduced, whereas Namo Bharat will cater to high-speed regional services.
Another proposal that is equally important is the Faridabad-Gurugram corridor, where an independent Metro line of around 52 to 60 kilometers has been proposed. The construction of this Metro would enhance the convenience of travel between two major economic centers of the state without being compelled to go via Delhi.
The other proposal is the Sonipat-Panipat corridor, where the Red Line of the Delhi Metro has been planned from Rithala via Narela up to Sonipat. The Delhi-Panipat-Karnal Namo Bharat corridor would be constructed along with it, which would provide a convenient double-layered transport system.
Bahadurgarh-Rohtak Corridor in western Haryana is the current area of focus for metro extensions which are associated with the Green Line. While Violet Line is set to extend from Ballabhgarh to Palwal in the southern part, Gurugram-Manesar-Rewari Corridor is also getting developed because of constructions taking place for the extension of metro rail network between Gurugram Sector 56 to Manesar.
Apart from transportation development, this project is set to make a big impact on real estate market as well. Areas like Sonipat, Murthal, Rai, Pachgaon, Manesar, and Palwal are getting increasingly popular among people buying homes, investing in properties, and logistics firms. Improved connectivity is known to increase demand and the outer NCR areas have become cost-effective zones with promising prospects.
The overall effect of the NCRPB initiative with its double transit is that it is a huge stride towards transforming the mobility scenario of the Delhi-NCR region. It involves the integration of both metro lines and Namo Bharat trains to enable commuters and decrease congestion.
